QUALIFICATION:Available to applicants who are an employee or director of either Golden Spread or one of Golden Spread’s Members or whose parent(s) or guardian is an employee or director of either Golden Spread or one of Golden Spread’s Members, in partnership with The Opportunity Plan. Your Cooperative membership will be verified using the utility bill required in your application.

TIMELINE:Applications open January 1st. Completed applications are due by March 1st each calendar year. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May. Recipients will receive a notification from Opportunity Plan, Inc.

2023 RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to these two students who received scholarships for 2023! Each student receives a $1,000 scholarship to further their college education.

The Mark Schwirtz Employee Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2021 by the Golden Spread Board of Directors in order to honor the service of the late Mark Schwirtz, former Golden Spread President and CEO. A total of six recipients have received this scholarship since 2021.

The Board approved an initial contribution of $10,000 and CoBank matched the donation. As of March 1, 2023, the scholarship fund has a balance of $74,510 and is administered by The Opportunity Plan, Inc. of Canyon, Texas.
