Antelope
Antelope Station, near Abernathy, Texas, reached commercial operation on June 24, 2011. Antelope
Station will generate 168 megawatts of natural gas-fired electricity and will consist of eighteen 9.34 megawatt
Wärtsilä reciprocating engine generators, each of which can reach full output in less than fi ve minutes. Because
these generators can start quickly, are energy efficient and use virtually no water, they are a perfect choice to supplement the intermittent generation that will be available from the Golden Spread Panhandle Wind Ranch. These two facilities, along with the stored natural gas available from Golden Spread’s Fort Concho Gas Storage Facility, will provide clean energy to serve the electricity needs of our members.
